You gotta be careful!
Recently, a shocking story emerged out of Hawaii, with a film crew working on a Netflix documentary series experiencing a “horrific” tiger shark attack while shooting. What’s more shocking is that these tiger sharks were not only unusually aggressive, but that this incident occurred shortly after a similar tragic scene unfolded off the coast of Egypt, in which a young man was eaten alive by a tiger shark while swimming with his girlfriend.
Details about the Hawaii incident surfaced when series producer Huw Cordey and director Toby Nowlan recounted their experience to Forbes and Radio Times. According to them, the original plan was to conduct an underwater shoot with the tiger sharks waiting in the shallows at Laysan Island. However, their plans were suddenly interrupted when two sharks attacked them while they were in inflatable boats. Nowlan later described the sharks’ behavior as “extremely unusual” and likened the attack to something out of the movie “Jaws.” From the sounds of it, the crew was definitely lucky to escape with their lives.
These two recent attacks highlight the notorious reputation of tiger sharks and why they’ve been ranked the second most dangerous breed to humans by the International Shark Attack File. According to experts, these sharks are known to attack humans without reason or provocation, most likely due to their highly opportunistic behavior. While it’s true that white sharks, also known as “Great White” sharks, are the most feared species, it’s clear that tiger sharks should not be overlooked as potential hazards.
It’s important to keep in mind these incidents when engaging in water activities. This means that if you’re planning on swimming in the ocean, it is important to be aware of the dangers and take the necessary precautions to mitigate the risk. By doing so, you can avoid becoming another tragic statistic in an already bleak database.
