Chilling Update In Gilgo Beach Case, Secret Vault Revealed

Recent reports have revealed chilling details about the prime suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial murders. According to Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison, the suspect, identified as Manhattan architect Rex Heuermann, had more than 200 weapons in a vault at his home in Massapequa.

Katherine Shepherd, who was an interior designer hired to worked at the killers home called him “Dexter.”

“He’s just like Dexter,” she told DailyMail.com. “You’d never know if you met him. Dexter was also super normal and then he had that other side.”

The 59-year-old father of two is suspected of killing sex workers Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose bodies were discovered at Gilgo Beach in 2010. After re-opening the cold case, investigators pieced together enough evidence to locate Heuermann, who was arrested in Midtown Manhattan near his office on Thursday.

Harrison revealed that investigators were able to connect Heuermann to the murders by using phone records, credit card information, background checks and surveillance of the suspect’s lifestyle.

Explaining why they were so careful not to alert Heuermann of their interest in him, he remarked, “If he knew people were following him then anything could happen from there. He could try to flee the country.”

Describing Heuermann as a large and intimidating figure, Harrison voiced his relief that Heuermann was apprehended before he could claim anymore victims. He called on anyone with information related to the murders to come forward, saying “He’s an ogre. He’s a big human being, but I’m very, very glad we were able to get him off the streets.”

Shepard said when she was working for Heuermann she was not allowed to go into a specific room in the basement.

“In the basement, there was this one room that was locked, and he said I couldn’t go into that room,” she recalled.

“I was like – what the hell? That’s weird. And he was kind of joking, like, oh you can’t go in there because there’s things in there And then he said, ‘I’ve got a bunch of guns.'”

“He was weird about it, and I was like okay, fine,” she told DailyMail.com. “I could measure around it.”
