Archaeologists in Jerusalem have recently uncovered evidence of a significant Biblical event in the Pool of Siloam, offering visual proof of miraculous healing performed by Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.
A joint excavation between the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority, and the City of David Foundation has uncovered a set of eight steps dating back to when Jesus used the Pool of Siloam as a ritual bath. The steps are believed to be part of an ancient staircase that Jesus would have descended into the pool.
“It’s exciting to be a part of a story that’s bigger than ourselves — to be a part of bringing a story to life that has significance not for millions, but for billions,” Ze’ev Orenstein, director of international affairs of the City of David Foundation, told Fox News Digital.
The ancient pool, which is approximately the size of two Olympic-sized swimming pools, was originally built more than two thousand years ago by Judean King Hezekiah. Hezekiah constructed it with the intention of providing a water supply to help his country survive a pending Assyrian attack.
The Pool of Siloam is most famously known for its role in the healing of a blind man, as described in the Gospel of John. In this story, Jesus recovered the man’s vision by placing clay made from the ground and his saliva over the blind man’s eyes and ordering him to go and wash in the pool.
The City of David Foundation is currently working to develop the site, connecting people from different faiths and backgrounds in Jerusalem in order to preserve and develop the history and heritage of the location. The Foundation plans to open the entire historical site once the reconstruction is finished, in order to make it freely available to visitors.
Rev. Johnnie Moore, president of the Congress of Christian Leaders, spoke about the significance of the discovery “In the Pool of Siloam, we find evidence of history preserved for us, revealed at just the right time. Theologically, it affirms scripture, geographically it affirms scripture, and politically, it affirms Israel’s unquestionable and unrivaled link to Jerusalem. Some discoveries are theoretical. This one is undeniable. It is proof of the story of the Bible and of its people, Israel.”
The discovery stands as a visual testament to the historical accuracy of the Bible and offers a glimpse into the world of Jesus Christ’s time. With the uncovering of this ancient staircase, visitors can now stand in the same spot that Jesus once did, providing a deeper appreciation for the Bible and its stories.
