Delta Airlines recently experienced a flight that could only be described as unfortunate. On Sunday, the Delta flight DL194 travelling from Atlanta to Barcelona was forced to return to Atlanta after a passenger suffered a case of what has been described as catastrophic diarrhoea.
The pilot of Flight DL194 informed air traffic control that they were returning to Atlanta due to a “medical issue” onboard, with passengers later discovering the cause of the medical emergency was the faecal explosion.
One passenger on board, who chose to remain anonymous, claims the diarrhoea “dribbled down the aisle” of the aircraft and resulted in an “unbearable” smell.
Twitter user John Hurdt, who allegedly was onboard, wrote: “Both my wife and I were on the flight. It was a mess. The pilots made the right decision to turn around. The ground crew ripped out the carpet and put new in. Considering the circumstances, the ground crew did a great job, along the attendants and the pilots.”
Once the plane had landed, emergency services had to be called in to carry the sick passenger off the aeroplane, while the flight was being thoroughly cleaned.
The passenger’s partner, Dee W, explained what happened after the flight landed in Atlanta: “The flight was met by emergency vehicles and EMTs carried the sick passenger off the plane. My partner said the plane was cleaner when they got back on at 2am than it was the first time they got on. No smell either.”
Despite the flight being delayed for eight hours due to the unfortunate circumstances, Delta Airlines worked to ensure the aircraft was properly cleaned and disinfected before allowing any passengers back onboard. The flight was eventually allowed to take off for Barcelona the following day.
A spokesperson for the airline commented, “Delta flight 194 from Atlanta to Barcelona returned to Atlanta following an onboard medical issue. Our teams worked as quickly and safely as possible to thoroughly clean the aeroplane and get our customers to their final destination. We sincerely apologise to our customers for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans.”
Fortunately, the plane was eventually able to make the journey to Barcelona without further incident, and all passengers finally arrived safely at their destination.
