Lizzo is a powerful female artist known for singing about body positivity and self-love. Unfortunately, recent allegations have come to light that she fat-shames and sexually harasses her former backup dancers.
Three dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, filed a lawsuit against the singer personally and her production company for their wrongful termination. The dancers have claimed weight shaming, sexual harassment, and failure to pay workers. As news of their lawsuit spread, more and more people have come forward with similar allegations. So far, six anonymous individuals have come forward with allegations ranging from a “sexually charged atmosphere” on the tour to being stiffed on payment for services.
The former dancers had the opportunity to share their stories on Good Morning America and all three described disturbing incidents that had occurred while Lizzo employed them. Davis described a situation in which she felt forced to touch a nude performer at a sex show. Williams and Rodriguez discussed how they felt their jobs were threatened while in Lizzo’s employ. Additionally, the three dancers all acknowledged Lizzo’s hypocrisy when she boasted about female empowerment.
In response to the allegations of the three dancers, Lizzo made a public statement denying any wrongdoing. She claimed to take her music and performances seriously and implied that she had to make hard choices in order to succeed. In her attempt to defend herself, she insulted the former dancers by calling their behavior inappropriate and unprofessional.
The story of Lizzo and her former dancers is a reminder that a lot of pop stars put on a facade for money. it is also a reminder that eventually, the truth comes out especially if you don’t treat people that work for you well.
The flood has started to rise around Lizzo and it wouldn’t be surprising if she “takes a break” for a while.
